Eleni HeracleousFaculty list

Eleni Heracleous

Dr. Eleni Heracleous is a Chemical Engineer (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 2000) with a PhD from the same department in 2005, on the development of catalysts and processes for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene. From 2006 to 2008, she worked at the R&D department of Shell Global Solutions in Germany, focusing on the development of biofuels-based products. In 2008, she returned to Greece and worked as a research associate at the Laboratory of Environmental Fuels and Hydrocarbons (LEFH) of the Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CPERI/CERTH). In 2014, she was appointed as Lecturer at the Department of Science and Technology of the International Hellenic University. Today, she is an Associate Professor at the Department of Science and Technology of the International Hellenic University and a Collaborating Member of CPERI/CERTH. Her research focuses on the development of catalysts and catalytic processes for the production and upgrading of biofuels, the conversion of CO and CO2 into fuels and chemicals using innovative catalysts and intensified processes, the selective oxidation of light alkanes to olefins, etc. She has participated as a main researcher in numerous research projects (14 European and 3 national), while she has coordinated 2 European and 3 national projects with a budget of over 2 million euros. Her published work includes >60 publications in high-impact scientific journals with >4000 citations (h-index 36) and >200 presentations in national and international scientific conferences. Finally, Dr. Heracleous has significant administrative work, as she has served as Head of Department and School Dean (2020-2021), Director of MSc programs (2016 until today), and chair/member of >15 committees, with the most important being  IHU’s Research Committee, the Council of the Center for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning, the Administrative Council of the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency in Higher Education, the Postgraduate Studies Committee, and the Internal Evaluation Group (OMEA).
