The objective of this module is to provide students with the key changes in industrial product design over the past decades. Contemporary product design shows a shift of paradigm from technology-driven invention to user-centred innovation. Consumers globally seek for differentiated products while rapid-prototyping technology creates new frontiers in product personalization, allowing original ideas which trigger the evolution of contemporary product design.

In the framework of the module, key milestones for the evolution of contemporary product design will be considered. Through case studies, emphasis will also be placed on the presentation of notable designers and practices that have made a significant impact in the realms of culture and public every daily life as well as of pioneer enterprises investing heavily in product design.
