Reverse Engineering and 3D Printing
Elective
2
Reverse Engineering (RE) and 3D printing are two technologies aiming at reducing the total product development time. RE is applied in the early stages of product development process and 3D printing for concept approval, prototype testing as well as manufacturing. This module course will present practical and theoretical concepts for both technologies in order to fully understand the capabilities and limitations of both technologies. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the various steps to be undertaken for fully processing an RE process and the achieved results in each step. Practical examples for typical applications will be presented together with the problems presented and the results achieved. Students will practice the RE process through the available 3D scanners and various 3D printing technologies along with practice of software for data processing.
