Master's programme(s):
Course type:

Elective

Semester:

2

Syllabus:

The purpose of this course is to give students basic information on materials, manufacturing processes and systems. The materials section focuses on properties and behavior. Thus, various aspects are presented in relation to the way they affect manufacturing and manufactured products. In terms of the processes used to manufacture items (converting materials into products), this course seeks to provide a descriptive introduction to a wide variety of options, emphasizing on how each process works and its relative advantages and limitations. While the content is introductory, it is attempted to incorporate new and emerging technologies such as additive manufacturing combined with nanotechnology. Also, traditional technologies are discussed such metal casting processes, sheet metal fabrication, polymer processing, material removal processes etc.
